The project

Paling Yards wind farm is a proposed wind farm in the NSW Central Tablelands. It is located approximately 30 kilometres north of Taralga and 60 kilometres south of Oberon and. To the west is Abercrombie River National Park and to the east is Mount Werong State Forest. The site was chosen due to its consistent and strong winds, good options for nearby connection to existing transmission infrastructure and the relative low density of existing dwellings.

The proposed project site covers an area of approximately 4,600 hectares, where the current land use is primarily agricultural activities including grazing of sheep and cattle.

The Project

Background

A previous development application was lodged in 2010 for the construction, operation and maintenance of up to 59 wind turbines and ancillary infrastructure, with an EIS submitted in 2014. The application was withdrawn in June 2020 following discussions with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, to allow for a revised application based on the latest wind turbine technology and current legislative requirements.

The new design includes a reduction in the number of wind turbines to a maximum of 47.

A refreshed application (Environment Impact Statement) featuring a reduction in the number of wind turbines is being prepared for submission to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.

Current status

  • From 10 October 2023 till 6 November 2023 for Public exhibition of wind farm.
  • LiDAR survey was conducted in February 2024 for the O’Connell First World War Memorial Avenue.
  • Ongoing engagement with the landholders and relevant authority.
  • GPGA with the help of consultants is preparing a Response to the Submission and intends to submit it by the end of April 2024.

Layout

The project covers an area of approximately 4,600 ha, where the current land use is primarily agricultural activities including grazing of sheep and cattle.
